A brief history of the Derwood Station neighborhood
Derwood Station is a neighborhood consisting of three distinct geographical areas each with different homeowners’ associations (HOA); however, all were built by the same developer Walter J. Magruder, Jr. and have similar architectural characteristics. The first area built consists of 46 homes and its Derwood Station Homeowners Association, Inc., was established in 1981. All of the street names in this HOA have the name “Anamosa” in them, specifically Anamosa Drive, Anamosa Court and Anamosa Way. These streets are on both sides of Indianola Drive and close to Crabbs Branch Way.
The second HOA, namely Derwood Station HOA No. 2 was established in 1983. This HOA represents 222 homes that are situated between Buena Vista Terrace and Algona Court on both sides of Indianola Drive. The third HOA in the neighborhood was established in 1984 and represents over 230 homes. While formally known as Derwood Station South HOA, it goes by the name Hollybrooke.

Our Community
The 46 homes that are a part of our Derwood Station HOA are beautiful and well-maintained and sit on quiet streets surrounded by mature trees and open common areas. Our HOA collaborates with the adjacent HOAs on outdoor social activities. The homes are close to nature (e.g., Lake Needwood, Rock Creek Regional Park) as well as multiple shopping areas and have easy access to the Shady Grove metro station.
Homes in our Derwood Station HOA are served by Candlewood Elementary School, Shady Grove Middle School, and Magruder High School, all highly rated schools.
Because Derwood is not governed by a local municipality, it is the HOA that funds services associated with the common areas such as clearing sidewalks of snow, mowing, and clearing downed trees. Derwood Station is, however, serviced by Montgomery County for critical services such as trash collection, recycling, and street snow plowing.
The nearest Fire and Emergency Medical Service coverage comes from Rockville Station 3 and Gaithersburg Station 28. The nearest hospital emergency room is at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Candlewood Elementary School is our precinct polling place.
Derwood, MD has a zip code of 20855.
